These seminars focus on small group networking and hands-on experience. Attendees will have the opportunity to leave the seminars with samples they have fabricated showcasing their new skills to clients and/or decorators/designers.

Creative Solutions on a Grand Scale - Carlette Cormier Award winning WFCP Specialist Carlette Cormier will discuss designing and fabricating for large, tall and arched windows. Of special note will be learning how important scale and proportion are in determining finished lengths, drops, etc. are so that the finished product fits the room and window area. This class will be a combination of slide presentation and samples.
Customer Connection - Sharon Greiner Sharon will present the different types of customer/employee personality types and her methods for identifying and responding to them successfully. She will discuss the six categories and subcategories of personality types and red flags and how you can modify your presentation to positively impact your client/employee relationships.
Easy Email Marketing for Workrooms and Designers - Sandy Gardner Do you want to attract higher end clients? Maybe you would like to increase your sales of blinds and shades, move your business into a niche market such as "fantasy baby rooms" or establish yourself as an expert in home theaters. Let email marketing help you target the customers and business you would like to have. Raise the bar of professionalism by keeping in touch with your customers and alerting them to industry news. Sandy Gardner will share with you the step by step process of writing and publishing an email newsletter. Each participant will receive Sandy's workroom "Easy Email Marketing". This course will help you target your "ideal" client and bring in those jobs you dream of having.
 Finishing Details (Hands-on) Award Winning Leslie Fehling's Finishing Details class will learn how to use fusible appliqué as an accent for valances, leading edges, pillows and more. Your class sample project will have fusible appliqué as an outer frame and you will learn fabric origami to use as a centerpiece in your sample. Both applications can be used creatively for window treatment and bedding projects and will add to your skills and sales of beautiful details.
Historical Pelmets using Contemporary Methods (Hands-on) - Joanna Braxton Award winning window treatment specialist Joanna Braxton will lead the class in creating a detailed pelmet from a chipboard base. This method allows for intricate curves and cuts to be made with extreme precision for a very high-end look. You will learn how to create layers, insets, complicated bands and elaborate headers with ease and accuracy. Each student will fabricate a sample of your own to take home as an example to show clients and to serve as a reminder of how to duplicate the process. This is a brand new class that has never been taught on a national level before. Be among the first to learn this fun and creative technique!
Textiles in Depth - (Elective for Saturday afternoon) Peggy Morgans will lead this informative class covering the two basic elements that make up a textile - weave structure and fiber content - and how those elements affect fabricating techniques and design choices. You will learn to recognize common decorative textiles by name and be able to identify which weave structures are most suited for your application. You will become more informed and knowledgeable about making proper fabric content choices for your clients' projects based on more than just design and pattern selection. You will learn the characteristics of natural and synthetic fibers and why you might choose one over the other.
Attendees will get to touch and feel the fabrics as they learn about them and will take home a swatch card with weave structure samples. This class will benefit experienced fabricators who would like to make more informed decisions in fabric and lining selections in order to have a successful finished product.
*Motorization - (Hands-on. NON TAKE HOME - Elective for Saturday afternoon) Chris Watt will demonstrate and describe how to build a motorized shade. Each student will complete a motorized headrail for a shade, learning how to determine necessary parts, set limits, etc. The class attendees will not take home a completed sample after this class.

Each student will complete a motorized headrail for a shade, learning how to determine necessary parts, set limits, etc. The class attendees WILL take home a completed sample motorized headrail after this class (there is an add-on supplies fee for this class).
Planning for the Worst Chris Watt will discuss how to plan for, fabricate for and install in difficult and/or challenging situations (minimal clearances, difficult header/window placements, location of mounting the treatment and supports, challenging surfaces, etc.) This class will help you identify potential problems or unusual situations in specialty windows and surrounding areas so you can quote the project properly, plan the fabrication efficiently and be able to plan for the installation in an effective and trouble-free manner.
*Smocking - (Hands-on. Elective for Saturday afternoon) Donna-Marie Lee will teach her innovative method for perfect and beautiful smocking without smocking tapes. Registrants will receive a small drapery panel ready for marking, pleating and tacking so you can learn the actual smocking technique and have a sample to take home.
 Specialty Details (Hands-on) Gillian Wendel will showcase numerous beautiful samples and teach you how to fabricate and use Chinese knots and decorative frogs as closures and accents in future projects.
Unusual Roman Shades (optional add-on class) The popular "Pillow Lady", Chris Watt, will show a variety of roman shade styles and discuss her creative, non-standard ways to fabricate them. Each attendee will also fabricate two shades (duo shade and back tucked shade) using Chris' methods.
Design & Proportion This class will cover basic proportion theory and include tips gained from Gillian's graphic arts training. Additional topics include drawing to scale, using the proportion wheel and converting a magazine photo or sketch into a completed client project. Gillian will also demonstrate how to scale shaped cornices on different sized windows in the same room.
